Early History

The Mountain Lakes Sailing Association is registered as fleet 17 in the International Sunfish Class Association 2006-2007 Handbook.  There were 701 US fleets registered at that time.  Eight of the 16 other fleets registered before us existed in 2006, These fleets were in Pennsylvania (1), Illinois (2), New York (2), Connecticut (1), and Texas (2).  The first fleet registered, in Locust Valley, NY still exists.  The handbook does not state whether the fleets with lower numbers than us have existed continuously or have lapsed and been reinstated. 

The Sunfish was introduced in 1953.

Junior North American Champions

David Elliot from Mountain Lakes was the Junior NA Champion in 1976 and 1978.
