Our aim is to teach and nurture the safe enjoyment of sailing. We offer a six week summer camp for kids and teens. The atmosphere is informal and family oriented. Our clubhouse is the "gazebo," and our waters are Mountain Lake.

MLSA History

The Sunfish

The MLSA sailing programs exclusively use the Sunfish sailboat, which is ideally suited to Mountain Lake. More information about Sunfish boats can be found here.

Early History

The Mountain Lakes Sailing Association is registered as Fleet 17 in the International Sunfish Class Association 2006-2007 Handbook. There were 701 US fleets registered at that time. Eight of the 16 other fleets registered before us existed in 2006. These fleets were in Pennsylvania (1), Illinois (2), New York (2), Connecticut (1), and Texas (2). The first fleet registered, in Locust Valley, NY still exists. The handbook does not state whether the fleets with lower numbers than ours have existed continuously or have lapsed and been reinstated.

Junior North American Champions

David Elliot from Mountain Lakes was the Junior NA Champion in 1976 and 1978.

"Now then, said Christopher Robin, "Where's your boat?" "I ought to say," explained Pooh as they walked down to the shore of the island, "that it isn't an ordinary boat. Sometimes it's a Boat, and sometimes it's more of an Accident, It all depends," "Depends on what?" "On whether I'm on the top of it or underneath it." - Winnie-The-Pooh by A. A. Milne.
